ROY EDWARD SIEVERS


One of the most feared sluggers of his era, Roy Sievers became just the 18th player in MLB history to hit 300 home runs. Known as "Mr. Clutch" for his late-inning heroics, Sievers hit almost a quarter of his home runs in the eighth inning or later, including 9 walk-off blasts.


The recipient of the inaugural AL Rookie of the Year award (1949), Sievers also hit 10 grand slams and 10 pinch-hit (PH) home runs.


Playing for the Senators in 1957, Roy Sievers (.301/42/114) had a career year winning the AL HR Crown (42 HRs), AL RBI Title (114 RBIs), AL Total Bases Crown (331 TBs) & finishing third in MVP voting behind Mickey Mantle & Ted Williams!


In this game on Saturday, September 14, 1957, at old Griffith Stadium, in a 2-2 tie heading into the bottom of the 10th, Roy Sievers leads off the bottom of the 10th inning and blasts a leadoff walkoff home run to end the ball game!!  Senators win 3-2.
