Authentic Large Orthoceras Nautiloid Fossil 130mm 5" in Presentation Box
This is a 100% genuine fossilised Orthoceras. Orthoceras is an ancient cephalopod that lived approximately 360 to 400 million years ago, during the Devonian Period. The name 'Orthoceras' translates to 'straight horn', which aptly describes the creature's distinctive long, straight, conical shell. Today, the only remaining evidence of this ancestor to modern-day squid is its preserved shell, which offers a fascinating glimpse into prehistoric marine life.
These Orthoceras fossils were discovered in the Atlas
Mountains of Morocco. This region of land was under the ocean at the time when
these creatures were alive, however, due
to continental shifts over millions of years, the area has since moved inland
and is now part of the desert landscape.
You will receive 1 fossil that will be randomly selected and will be similar to the fossils pictured. Each fossil is approximately 130 x 40 x 20mm (5 x 1.75 x 0.75 inches). The
fossil is presented in an elegant black cardboard box, which is 160 x 130 x 30mm, for display purposes and to keep it safe - it also contains an information label describing the contents.
