RAL 7009 Hellgrau

A high-quality semi-gloss German army field gray acrylic or enamel paint for scale models and historical miniatures.

RAL 7009 Light Gray Color Guide:

Feldgrau Nr. 2, later called RAL 7009 Hellgrau was the primary camouflage color of the Reichswehr during WWI. In the 1920s it was superseded by Feldgrau Nr. 3 (or RAL 6006) for this purpose.

Feldgrau Nr. 2 was used as a uniform camouflage color for non-combat vehicles of the German army such as motorcycles, signals and engineering equipment, vehicles of the rearward offices, horse-drawn carriages, etc. until 1937.

Feldgrau Nr. 2 was also used as the camouflage color of German aircraft and airships of World War I, or Luftstreitkräfte.

Feldgrau Nr. 2 was widely used to color German Army ammunition and equipment - cookware, gas masks, helmets, ammunition boxes, etc. in the 1920s.

RAL 7009 Hellgrau was used to paint the lower parts of the interiors of German armored vehicles in the 1930s and 1940s. The upper parts of the interiors under this scheme were to be painted RAL 1001 Elfenbein.

RAL 7009 Grüngrau along with RAL 5008 Graublau and RAL 7012 Basaltgrau was used in the Marineflieger Norm 87 camouflage scheme, the camouflage of German naval aviation in the 1990s.

RAL 7009 Green Gray along with RAL 7012 Basalt Gray and RAL 7023 Concrete Gray was also used for the wraparound camouflage of German SAR helicopters such as the Westland Sea King Mk.41.
