This listing is for an antique Chinese rice storage caddy with engraved iron fittings. This rustic container was made over a hundred years ago for the purpose of measuring and holding a dou of rice, an ancient Chinese measurement. Hand-crafted with dovetail joints, the vessel features gracefully rounded sides and an arched handle, burnished from years of use. Skillfully crafted, trimmed corners are protected against damage with iron fittings. The caddy has aged beautifully, boasting a smooth, softened surface from being handled over so many decades. It measures approximately 10” high x 13” diameter. Plenty of use has required many repairs; but the caddy has great character and remains sturdy and functional.
