A woman in Ibbestad (Ibestad) Norway posing in her lace and finery. Her hair is a bit messy, uncharacteristic for 1800s styles.

This Carte de Visite was purchased in Trondheim, Norway.

Studio: P. Rotvik, Ibbestad, Norway

This is a Carte de Visite (2.25” x 4”), a carboard backed original photo used as a calling card in the mid to late 1800’s when visiting acquaintances, usually given to a servant for presentation to the person being visited.  These cards were highly collectible among social circles as a way of showing a person’s prestige and circle of friends.
