LumaFix Combo for --> (MOS 6569/67 or MOS 8565/62)

This is Axel81l Team version of LumaFix64...but now is "COMBO".

What does it mean? It’s designed to be used with MOS 6569/6567 or MOS 8565/ 8562! So it works with both VIC-II that they need 5V and 12V.

It's the first LumaFix for Commodore 64 that combines the "bar removal" functionality and adapter capacity because with a single jumper you can select the possibility of mounting a MOS 8565 / 8562 or MOS 6569 / 6567 on your Commodore 64!

So now you can understand why it is called "LumaFix Combo"  ..... ;-)

"LumaFix Combo" is equipped with three trimmers for AEC,PHI0,Chroma adj,JPC (Chroma bypass),VIC-II selector (6569 / 6567 or 8565 / 8562 selection), power led.

Last but not least, it can be mounted on any C64 ASSY without any interference and with a record-breaking overall height

LUMAFIX HISTORY

LumaFix64 was designed (Efrog) to easily remove vertical stripes (jail bars) from your Commodore 64 image caused by non standard signals from the VIC-II video chip. It also has an adjustment for the Chroma signal that can help reduce problems related to s-video connection on modern TVs and LCDs

LumaFix64 addresses these issues by inverting AEC and PHI0, then attenuating them with potentiometers and then the signals are coupled into the S/LUM signal.

INSTALLATION

  • Start by removing your VIC-II chip from your Commodore 64 and insert in into the socket of the LumaFix Combo. (If your VIC-II is not socketed then you will first need to carefully remove the chip and solder a 40 pin socket in. Do not attempt this if you are not good with soldering as you risk damaging the tracks on the motherboard, or worse damaging the VIC-II)
  • Insert the LumaFix Combo into the VIC-II socket on your Commodore 64.
  • Select jumper position
VIC-II SETTING:
1-2 CLOSED --> 8565 / 8562
2-3 CLOSED --> 6569 / 6567
  • Double check the orientation of the VIC-II chip and socket.  Inserting this incorrectly and you risk damaging the VIC-II chip and other components on the C64.
See pictures for the correct chip orientation

SETUP

Turn all the potentiometers anti-clockwise all the way with caution because the trimmers are SMD! Turn on the Commodore 64 adjust the AEC clockwise until you get the picture as good as it can get.

Then adjust  PHI0 until you are satisfied with the startup screen on the Commodore 64.

The CHR potentiometer adjusts phase-variance on the colour signal, for this you may need to play around with it until you are satisfied with the results - mostly this will help alleviate slight ghosting effects on coloured objects on the screen (not necessary with Axel81l Team video cables). You can also Bypass by closing JPC that is on the bottom (Chroma Bypass)

REMEMBER THAT..

  • Professional & industrial PCB quality
  • Extreme layout
  • Equipped with high precision pin headers (gold) to plug on your motherboard socket U17 position. Pins  are 0.018" (0.46mm) to ensure they do not cause extra wear on your socket. Gold plated to ensure the best possible contact
