de Havilland Canada Dash 8 Q400
The Dash 8 series of aircraft was originally introduced in 1984. It was a cheaper, non-STOL, two-engined derivative of the company's Dash 7 4-engine STOL feederliner.
The Dash 8 lineage progressed from the 100 series, carrying 37–39 pax, through the 200 series with the same capacity but uprated engines, the 300 series with 50–56 pax capacity, to the 400 series with 68–78 seat capacity. The Q200–Q400 airframes utilised the ANVS (Active Noise and Vibration Suppression) system which reduced cabin noise to levels comparable with turbofan airliners.
In 1986 the de Havilland Canada company was sold to Boeing, who implemented various improvements in production. It was subsequently sold to Bombardier in 1992, who continued production until 2018 when it was once again sold, this time to Longview Aviation. In 2019, Longview Aviation announced it was establishing a new company, de Havilland Aircraft Company of Canada, to continue production of the Dash 8 Q400 and support the legacy Dash 8 airframes still flying. Thus the parentage of the Dash 8 has come full circle.

The Artwork
These digital profile illustrations are all created by myself, Graeme Molineux. They are created from scratch using illustration and photo-manipulation software. Each type takes between twenty and one hundred hours to complete. They are not retouched photos, nor are they the product of any kind of CAD or 3D rendering software. They are, effectively, digital paintings. Every Grubby Fingers profile is meticulously researched using my own photos and repair and maintenance manuals, when available. Many reference images are collected and, where feasible, I study an actual prototype. The illustrations are high-resolution and very detailed. Each illustration is a result of hours of painstaking research and attention to references. (My 40,000+ reference photos are available, for non-commercial use, free from my main website: grubby-fingers-aircraft-illustration.com.)
