Offered is a uniface concessionary coal token from North East England.
Obverse: 33 LBS 3D W.W. in three lines, THE HARTON COAL COMPANY LIMTD around, SOUTH SHIELDS below.
33LBS being the coal allowance, 3D the delivery charge and W.W. thought to refer to the Wagon Works land sale depot.
These tokens were issued to the office staff who, although they had a concessionary coal allowance, were required to pay for delivery.
These tokens are scarce and the W.W. type are rare and as such unrecorded by Jeffrey Gardiner
