French Mahogany Cased Lancet Mantel Clock. Fritz Marti c1906
What we have here is the Rolls Royce of this type of clock,
Many others will look very similar (though most of them will have plainer hands, often cheap replica movements and not as crisp inlay) but they must not be confused with this original, after his winning the Paris show of 1900 with this exact model of clock Fritz Marti became one of the most renowned and prominent french clock and movement makers of all time, although he was really a movement maker this clock case was also of his own design and these cases were made by his own unknown carpenter whereas most others were cabinet makers who had just bought his movements, and for years after this clocks success at the show there was also a flood of cheap replicas by other makers, in fact up to the late 60s copies were still being produced this one however is the real deal and this particular one is around 1906 (i believe that was the last year of production) and is one of a very few in comparison to other models. identical ones to this currently range from £720-£1200 on specialist trade sites
In stunning very unmolested condition, beautiful natural colour, has very light wear behind front glass catch with repetitive fingernail contact (as you would expect with something of this age and being in regular use most its life) otherwise condition pretty remarkable, i think it has had a small face chip beside the number 7 glued back in at some point but its very well done you can just feel it with your fingernail.
Good working order, keeps good time though new owner will probably have to adjust pendulum/set beat after receiving it as it needed slight adjustment after me moving it from my Grandmothers house to here, there are plenty online articles and youtube videos on this and its quite simple (watching a youtube video is how i did it :)
Elsewhere on the net identical examples of "the show clock" are between 2-4 times my asking price on more specialist sites (doesn't mean they will get it tho lol), however i think what i'm asking here instead is very very fair and what i feel a real world current market price to the trade or keen collector should be realistically, plus a good new home is as much my concern. I always respectfully consider any offers i receive so dont be shy, you may get even more of a bargain ;)
A truly beautiful, charming and handsome antique that will grace any home and being what is known as the true "All Marti original" a true investment also.
Thanks so much for looking, if i can be of any further help please don't hesitate to message as it would be my pleasure to assist, Thanks again
