Description: Large 5 volume set with multiple sections and title pages in each volume. This is a very elusive set of responsa from a great authority. I have provided as many title pages as I can fit into the listing, but it is the complete set. By Joseph Saul Nathansohn, a very respected and renowned authority on Jewish Law in America in the beginning of the 20th century. The books are in excellent condition with very clean pages throughout and the binding and covers are excellent. Just as a side note, a few volumes I noticed have the blank page lacking, and one title page has a small rip to bottom margin as shown. I believe this is a full facsimile of the first edition which was published in Lwow between the years of 1865 -1879.

About The Author.
Joseph Saul Nathansohn 1808–1875 יוסף שאול בן אריה הלוי was a Polish rabbi, a leading rabbinical authority of his day.

He was born in Berezhany (Berzan), Galicia Western Ukraine was the son of Aryeh Lebush Nathanson, rabbi at Berzan and author of Bet El. He studied Talmud at Lviv (Lemberg) together with his brother-in-law Mordecai Zeeb Ettinger. In the 1830s in Lemberg then under the rule of the Austrian Empire he founded an informal study-group. Under his tutelage this yeshiva brought students to Galicia. In 1857 Nathanson was elected rabbi of Lemberg, where he officiated for eighteen years. He was a widely recognized rabbinical authority, and was asked to rule on various contemporary issues; his rulings are still widely cited (for instance he was one of the first to permit the use of machinery in baking Matzah, which created a widespread halachic controversy). Nathanson was wealthy, and and commited to philanthropy. He died in Lemberg on March 4, 1875, with no descendants.

Rabbi Nathanson authored many works, but his Sho'el U-Meshiv, responsa was his Magnum opus, first edition being that of Lemberg, 1865–79.
