SIMPLE 3-STEP USE
|
1. Connect the Chat-R-Box® Pro between your irrigation controller and the valve wire for the zone you want to locate.
2. Turn that zone on and the Pro rapidly pulses the valve solenoid, causing it to click approximately 3–5 times per second.
3. Simply walk your yard and follow the sound to the buried valve.
|
Important: If the valve solenoid is defective or the wiring is damaged, the solenoid may not produce a clicking sound.
The built-in LED confirms the unit is operating.
No batteries required — the Pro uses your controller’s 24 VAC power.

HOW IT WORKS
|
Irrigation valves use a 24 VAC solenoid. The Chat-R-Box® Pro rapidly pulses the valve solenoid, causing it to produce a repeating clicking sound that can often be heard through the ground or through connected PVC piping.
The clicking sound comes from the valve solenoid itself, not from the sprinkler heads.

IMPORTANT COMPATIBILITY NOTES
|
- Designed for standard 24 VAC irrigation control systems
- Not for DC valve systems
- Works on many brands including Rain Bird, Orbit, Hunter, and Irritrol
- Not compatible with Toro valves
- Solenoid must be functional — open or shorted solenoids may not click
|
|
BEST RESULTS
|
- Practice first on a valve you already know works
- Search during the quietest time of day
- Background noise, soil depth, and valve type can affect sound level
- Some valves click louder than others; testing on a known valve helps confirm the system is working properly
