How to apply our Leather Dye

Step 1

With a lint-free cloth, use our Ultimate Leather Cleaner to clean the leather, removing any dirt and grease. Apply our Leather Primer with another lint free cloth until fully incorporated. Allow the leather to dry before proceeding to the next step.

Step 2

If the leather has any holes or rips, this is the time to use our Leather Repair Kit before moving on to the next stage. Once the repairs are complete, apply our Leather Dye using a sponge, paintbrush or spray gun, ensuring each coat is applied thinly. Allow each coat to dry fully before applying the next. To speed up drying, use a hairdryer on a medium heat setting, keeping it approximately 30cm away from the leather. If there are any creases or folds in the leather, switch the hairdryer to a cold setting to help smooth them out. Leave the leather to dry and cure for at least 24 hours. Drying time may vary depending on room temperature.

Step 3

Once the Leather Dye is fully dried and cured, it is essential to apply our Leather Sealant to protect and lock in the colour. To do this, use a clean sponge and apply thin layers of the Sealant in circular motions. Apply 2 to 3 coats, ensuring each coat is fully dry before applying the next for optimal protection and durability. Leave the leather for at least 72 hours to fully dry. After this time the item can be used as normal. To keep your leather looking it's best after recolouring, use our Leather Cleaners and Leather Conditioners for every day gentle care. However, wait at least four weeks before applying them to ensure the dye has fully cured.
