A scarce pair of Caughley porcelain butter boats of moulded leaf form with twig handles and leaf-shaped feet, circa 1779-99. They are transfer printed in underglaze blue with the Fisherman pattern and a cell and dagger border. Unmarked.
Dimensions approximately 7 cm x 6 .5 cm (2.76” x 2.56”) across the dish, not measuring the handle. The handle height is 3 cm (1.18”).
Condition: good display condition. One butter boat has noticeable pitting to the underside and some discolouration (the printed surface is unaffected), the second has a very small area of discolouration to the outer rim on one side, as shown.
