South sea pearls are organic gemstone. They are grown by living mollusks (Pinctada maxima oysters) and consist of thousands of microscopic layers of nacre, which is made of crystalline calcium carbonate and an organic binder called conchiolin.
In the process of it, organic material can sometimes get trapped in internal crevices, which is especially common in baroque and keshi pearl.
*please note: we offer free drilling service but when drilled, in 20-30% of keshi and baroque pearls the smell from the trapped organic material could get out.. the smell will get better overtime by air dry.. (very normal in baroque and keshi south sea pearl, it is part of its natural formation process and not a faulty or damage item)
We can not accept return because of it because the smell is part of the pearl and we do not do treatment on our loose pearl sale.
