1936 ROSE BOWL TICKET STUB SMU/Stanford
Jan 1, 1936 Rose Bowl Ticket Stub. It was Stanford over SMU 7-0.
The ticket is in very nice shape. There is a crease across top from left to right. See photos.
The 1936 Rose Bowl was the 22ndRoseBowl game, an American post-season college football game that was played on New Year's Day 1936 in Pasadena, California. It featured the undefeated SMU Mustangs against the Stanford Indians, which had one loss. Stanford upset SMU 7-0 for the school's second Rose Bowl win. Going into the Rose Bowl the Mustangs were 12 and 0 and champions of the Southeast Conference. The Indians were 7 and 1 and co-champions of the Pacific Coast Conference with Cal. The Indians scored a rushing touchdown in the first quarter and held onto win 7 to 0. Despite the Rose Bowl loss, four of the 13 selectors recognized as official by the NCAA recognized the 1935 SMU team as the national champion.
The
game was the first sellout for the Rose Bowl Game with all 84,784 seats filled
with a large portion of fans from Texas to watch their Mustangs play. According
to the Pasadena Tournament of Roses, there was a request for additional 200,000
tickets.
