Measures 11-1/2 x 9 inches; unpaginated, [xii], frontispiece and 173 full-page plates printed one-side only (including several etchings) each with titled onion-skin protection sheet. 

Although not marked as such, "Later Work" is considered to be the second volume following The Early Work of Aubrey Beardsley published two years earlier (vol. 1 first published in 1899 (Early Work); vol. 2 first published 1901 (Later Work). A third volume titled Uncollected Work was published separately and much later, in 1925; as cited in Lasner 133, 136, 177).

Covers worn with some loss of stamped design and lettering, owner name and information on front blank page, inner hinges starting but binding still sound, otherwise interior largely clean and complete.

BIOGRAPHY:

Aubrey Vincent Beardsley (21 August 1872 – 16 March 1898) was an English illustrator and author. His black ink drawings were influenced by Japanese woodcuts, and emphasized the grotesque, the decadent, and the erotic. He was a leading figure in the aesthetic movement which also included Oscar Wilde and James McNeill Whistler. Beardsley's contribution to the development of the Art Nouveau and poster styles was significant despite his early death from tuberculosis. He is one of the important Modern Style (British Art Nouveau style) figures.

Beardsley was best known for his grotesque, decadent, and often erotic drawings in black ink that appeared in such notable works as Oscar Wilde's 'Salome', and the 1896 edition of Pope's 'The Rape of the Lock'. Due to his infamous erotic illustrations Beardsley was the most controversial artist of the Art Nouveau era, and significantly contributed to the movement before his tragically early death from tuberculosis.
