Description
Akuamma
or Pircamila Nitida, is a white flower baring tree growing up to 35 meters
tall, found throughout the jungles of central Africa.
The plant
is mostly localised in countries such as Ghanna, Nigeria and Ivory cost and is
traditionally used in old folklore medicine throughout these regions
It is reported that each part of the plant bare specific therapeutic purposes. The bark is often boiled, and the brew consumed, whereas the dried seed have crushed and ingested.
Mechanism
of action
The seeds contain a variety of
alkaloids, such as Pericine, Akuammine, Akuammidine
and ψ-akuammigine.
Animal
studies using akuammigine discovered it reduces swelling and response to pain,
suggesting anti inflammatory and analgesic properties.
Both
Akuammidine and ψ-akuammigine have proven to be weak, non selective,
u-opioid agonists.
Warnings & precautions:
May potentiate sedative
medication
Do not consume whilst pregnant or
breast feeding.
Resist lengthy periods of daily
consumption.
