Titanium tent pegs (or more accurately Titanium Alloy Gr5 tent pegs), have major advantages over other metal tent pegs. Being so much stronger than steel, these titanium alloy tent pegs can be made physically much smaller while still maintaining a high tensile strength. Not only does the titanium alloy make for a strong tent peg, but the smaller physical dimensions also provide a tent peg that is extremely lightweight and indeed on par with lighter aluminium tent pegs. Also, unlike steel tent pegs, titanium alloy tent pegs are extremely corrosion resistant.

So we have tent pegs with the following properties:

Just to put things into perspective, these 6 Ultralight Titanium Hook Pegs weigh only the same as a £2 coin. 

In ideal weather and ground conditions, small (130mm x 2mm) Ultralight 2 gram titanium hook tent pegs can work effectively and obviously offer a great weight-saving, however they do not provide a great deal of holding power. So in anything less than ideal weather and ground conditions their effectiveness will certainly be suspect. 

Generally, these small Ultralight 2g titanium hook tent pegs are really only suitable for holding a groundsheet in place, as they will not hold in most ground sufficiently well when under load. That said, in order to save weight you can very effectively use them to peg down the inner tent as long as the outer flysheet has ample pegging points. For pinning down an additional ground sheet or footprint they are ideal (as long as the ground will take them). 

Ultralight campers and backpackers may opt for these 2g ultralight titanium hook tent pegs to peg down their entire tent or tarp (usually placing rocks on top of load bearing pegs to aid their ground retention), but we personally would never consider using them for pegging down a flysheet. That said, with the growing popularity of 'Fastpacking' (basically running with a backpack) where weight is critical, then these 2g tent pegs are becoming more the norm. Titanium Alloy Grade 5 (Gr5) Grade 5 (Gr5), also known as Ti6Al4V, Ti-6Al-4V or Ti 6-4, is the most commonly used alloy. It has a chemical composition of 6% aluminium, 4% vanadium, 0.25% (maximum) iron, 0.2% (maximum) oxygen, and the remainder titanium.[5] It is significantly stronger than commercially pure titanium while having the same stiffness and thermal properties (excluding thermal conductivity, which is about 60% lower in Grade 5 Ti than in CP Ti).[6] Among its many advantages, it is heat treatable. This grade is an excellent combination of strength, corrosion resistance, weld and fabricability.
