Acquisition / History: Acquired from the Estate of Artist Lucy Liu, a prominent Chinese
brush painter and calligraphy artist in Dec. of 1999.
Acquired were various works of Meng Ludings along with many of Lucys works of art.
Lucy attended the Central Academy of Fine Art in Beijing, China in 1986;
Meng attended the (CAFA) in 1987 and also became a Professor there.
They undoubtedly had affiliations through the academy and knew the same
people. I'm sure they must have known each other in Beijing and most likely Lucy's influence and connections
brought Meng to Seattle, WA where he and his wife lived. While in Seattle, Meng
was a participant in the symposium on new media in Chinese art, sponsored by The Seattle Arts
Museums Asian Art Council. Lucy Liu was a member of the Asian Arts Council and Lucy founded
the Northwest Chinese Art Society in 1984 in order to promote Asian art in the United States.
Meng and Lucy attended the same Academy, exhibited their artworks at the same Galleries and
were members of the same groups. Lucy Liu acquired this painting at some point during their affiliation.
Meng Luding was one of the most important representative painters of the 1980s.
His work "A New Age - The Revelation of Adam and Eve" was recorded in the history of the opening of the 85th Art Movement . His
expressionistic style work "Football" has also opened up a new field of performance in the era, becoming a classic. Monroe Ding
has been mainly engaged in abstract art creation and research, is a pioneering contemporary abstract style painter. His recent
works have a strong personal style and unique artistic concept, showing a new visual language and production methods.
Under the theme of "Early Work", the exhibition at Yuan Art Museum brings together masterpieces by nine of China's leading
abstract artists created during the 1980s and 1990s. The biographies of the nine artists, explorations of the nine sets of
masterpieces that correlate profoundly with the artists career developments and current practices.
