About Silver American Eagles:

1986 was the first year of the Silver American Eagle program. As genuine legal tender, they are the only silver coins whose weight and purity are guaranteed by the United States Government. Each coin contains a minimum of one troy ounce of 99.9% pure silver.

Coins from 1986 to 1992 were minted at the United States Mint at San Francisco bearing the "S" mint mark, 1993 to 2000 were minted at the United States Mint at Philadelphia bearing the "P" mint mark and 2001 to date minted at the United States Mint at West Point bearing the "W" mint mark. Bullion Silver Eagles do not have Mint Marks.

In 2021 the reverse features a new design of the Eagle. Both reverses were minted in 2021 and is referred to as the Type 1 (original) and Type 2 (new design).
