CHILE PEQUIN, HOT HOT PEPPER, CAPSICUM ANNUUM AVICULARE, 25 FRESH HOMEGROWN SEED

25 FRESH SEEDS COLLECTED FOR THIS SEASON

In San Antonio and parts thereabout, they are known as chile petins”. That’s where this bush’s parent plant lived.

"Tiny but deadly."  --At least 15 times hotter than jalepenos.

(Jalepenos typically register 3500 to 8000 scovilles; pequins routinely register 100,000 to 140,000 scovilles, and can grow as hot as 250,000--the same amout of heat as habaneros.)

Collecting seeds is a hot time.

These native peppers are perennial in much of their growing range, but will do just as well grown as annuals. Even if a frost knocks them back to the ground, they will often re-emerge as soon as the ground warms up the next spring.

Pequin's flavor is citrusy and nutty.  AND smokey if dried with wood smoke. (M-M-M-M-M-M) They are wonderful in pickles, salsas, sauces and soups. They make wonderful vinegars.

Cholula brand hot sauce includes pequins in their list of ingredients.

Pequins are easy to germinate, and make a beautiful little bush--grown in pots or in the landscape. Once they're up and growing, they are very drought tolerant.

They do well in bright sun to dappled shade.

The bushes can reach a height of 3 feet in the ground (.ACTUALLY, ours growing in the ground in San Antonio could easily reach 4-5 feet tall in some summers), and they cover themselves in pretty, conspicuous little white flowers with bright yellow stamens.  They make a beautiful mass planting.

Birds LOVE the tiny peppers that start out bright green and ripen to brilliant scarlet red. VERY SHOWY. They are bite sized for the birds--only ¼ to ⅜ inch long, and they very liberally redistribute them.

***We grow, harvest, clean and store our seeds, ourselves.***

ABOUT OUR SEEDS (A SORT OF DISCLAIMER):

**Some plants are restricted by various states.  We will notify you if we are aware of any restriction, but we mostly know about restrictions here in Texas. ULTIMATELY IT IS THE RESPONSIBILITY OF THE BUYER to verify if your purchase is restricted by your state, county or city government.

**INTERNATIONAL BUYERS......While we are happy to ship seeds internationally, WE DO NOT OFFER PHYTOSANITARY CERTIFICATES. Again, IT IS THE RESPONSIBILITY OF THE BUYER to verify whether or not seeds might be banned from import into that country and might be seized at customs.

**MANY of the seeds we offer are NOT annuals with quick starts and short lifespans. Most are particularly suited to withstand the the extreme heat of central Texas summers. Many will take things entirely at their own pace and require a really warm soil and/or other special treatment for "quicker" germination...and germination MAY require weeks, months and longer.

**There are all manner of predators and conditions which can affect, hamper or even destroy germination....like molds, soil fungi, bugs, birds, squirrels, armadillos, pets and other varmints, soil and air temps (day AND night), water, light, care or lack thereof, contamination of planting media, and the list goes on.

**Germination tips are sent with each variety of seeds. The general method that works well for us in our location, particularly.

**BUYERS ARE ALWAYS ENCOURAGED TO DO THEIR OWN RESEARCH for their particular areas. The internet abounds in information. Grower forums, county extension agents, and local nurseries can also be quite valuable sources.

** "FLOATING SEEDS" is not necessarily an indication of seeds with no viability. In some species, floating is the indicator that the seed IS viable....and in some species (like citrus) both sinkers and floaters will germinate, depending on the maturity and freshness of the seed.
