FRONTENAC THEATRE, DETROIT, December 1-11, 1937!

This small movie theatre was located just north of present day I-94 Freeway (Edsel Ford Freeway) in Detroit, on Frontenac Avenue, which runs straight into Grand Blvd. (this runs south onto the bridge of Belle Isle Park in Detroit) and Harper. This small theatre presented Hollywood movies throughout the week, and enticed women by giving away glassware when patrons came out to see a movie, a common practice during the Great Depression in the United States. I'm not aware of any other programs from this Depression-era theatre in Detroit, so it may be the last remaining extant program still in existence today. It measures 8 1/2 inches by 5 1/2 inches.

Today you can find this old boarded-up theatre building still standing on the corner of Frontenac Ave. and Harper. This appears to be the actual remains of the Frontenac Theatre as it is located on the actual corner furnished on the program. This historic theatre would have been contemporary with the Book Cadillac Hotel in Detroit and the J.L. Hudsons Store. The date was discovered from the movie openers in the program....each of them were released in the Fall of 1937, and the program itself is dated Dec. 1-11.

Payment within one day of purchase. Picture of the present day remains of the building are not part of the sale. The program has some fold marks and small tears at the front and back pages. See all photos carefully as to condition.
