The battleship was laid at the New York shipyard in October 1861 in response to a southern start of the conversion of the steam frigate "Merrimack" into the armadillo "Virginia". The whole hull of the ship was made of iron. The armor covered not only the sides, but also the deck. March 9, 1862 "Monitor" first met in battle with the battleship southerners "Virginia". During the fierce three-hour battle, both battleships could not inflict fatal damage on each other. December 29, 1862 "Monitor" after the repair followed in tow and hit the storm, as a result, he sank 16 miles southeast of Cape Hatteras in North Carolina. Together with the ship, 4 officers and 12 sailors were killed.
This unusual and small model will appeal to all those who like ships of the original design of the Civil War in the US in 1861-1865. Difficulty: medium.
