Why Correct Mileage?

Often vehicle odometers can corrupt or crash display for many reasons including jump start due to faulty battery, vehicle software updates, broken parts, replacement speedo head etc. etc. When this is the issue we change a dashboard usually with second hand parts resulting in incorrect mileage for the vehicle. Is it illegal to alter my mileage?

Adjusting a vehicles digital speedometer is not illegal, it becomes an offence if the vehicle is sold on to the buyer without disclosing the correction in the speedo reading to the buyer. It is unlawful in some jurisdictions to reset odometers to read less than the true actual mileage on the motor vehicle.
