KS-1 (according to NATO classification - AS-1 "Kennel") - the first Soviet anti-ship aircraft cruise missile. The comet was officially adopted in 1953, although the series was launched a year earlier. During the war in Korea, at the meeting of the Politburo of the Party Central Committee, the question of the use of the first 50 serial missiles on American aircraft carrier units off the coast of Korea was considered, for which it was intended to use the 2 regiments of the Tu-4.
The Raduga KS-1 Komet (Russian: КС-1 "Комета", NATO reporting name: Kennel), also referred to as AS-1 and KS-1 (крылатый снаряд - winged projectile) was a short range air-to-surface missile (primarily used for anti-ship missions) developed by the Soviet Union. It was carried on only two aircraft: the Tupolev Tu-4 and the Tupolev Tu-16.
