Product Description
"No Standing" is the Boston-based SuperHoney's second release. The latest effort captures both studio and live performances. The live recordings -- culled from performances at the legendary Bill's Bar and the Berklee Performance Center -- capture the essence of the SuperHoney sound and features the Bill Wither's classic "Use Me" as well as SuperHoney staples "Swatty," "Nasty," "The Road," "Wait For You," and "Take Me Just As I am." The studio tracks range from the acoustic soul ballad "It All Depends" to an instrumental ("1-2-7")to the percolating funk of "Above the World."
Review
"A combination studio and live album, "No Standing" captures the group at an instrumental and improvisational high point and in a funky groove. Envision James Brown's virtuosic sweatshop being led by Chaka Khan, and you get an idea of SuperHoney's strengths." -- Sarah Rodman, The Boston Herald
"Get ready for some serious vocal pipes. Superhoney, a funk 'n' roll band fronted by one of the best kept secrets in town, Joan Pimentel-Flynn. JP Flynn has won comparisons to Janis Joplin, and such remarks are not unfounded, because she can dig deep for some of the most unchained vocals around." The new CD -- entitled "No Standing" -- is the band's hallmark, a collection of both live and studio performances that will keep them marching towards the big time. -- Steve Morse, The Boston Globe
"One of Boston's best bands of the late '90's is SuperHoney, and even if you don't like to sweat and get down and dirty with the funk, you have to give this band props. They're not a groove-oriented unit like so many outfits these days. No, they savor songs first and foremost. As a live band, frankly, very few acts can even touch them, and that's saying something. No doubt, part of what makes them so vital is the effervescent, effusive pipes of JP Flynn. Damn, this lady can sing, and she knows how to work the stage as the six-piece band turns the beat around." -- Ken Capobianco, The Boston TAB
