Here is a summary of the '5 Point EVSE Test'
1. Initial - Visually inspect the case and cables. Measure the diameter of the pins.
Loose pins can cause intermittent charging and a potential fire
2. Proximity Switch (J1772 pin 5) - Measure the open/ close resistance and gap.
Improper resistance or gap can prevent charging or damage J1772 pins on removal
3. Pilot Signal (J1772 Pin 4) - Measure the amplitude and duty cycle of Pilot Signal
This is the critical 2 way communication between the vehicle and EVSE.
4. Ground Fault Leakage - Simulate ground fault leakage and test EVSE fault display and recovery
This is the primary safety feature of the EVSE. If this is not working it could be deadly.
5. Active Charging Test - Test and verify the EVSE on an actual vehicle.
It is important to check outlets, plugs and cables for overheating.
