If some of your buttons are hard to push this will fix it. 
If ALL of your buttons stopped working then it's probably not a button problem and requires REPAIR

Note: The RC18 and RC38 are conductive dot plastic membrane snap keys. Unlike rubber keypads, these typically last longer BUT when they fail it is because the silver conductive coating has fallen off. That conductive material can short out the circuit board, virtually holding a button down all the time. This can cause large numbers or ALL buttons to stop working. It will also drain batteries faster. However, it is more common for the internal antenna to break than the buttons to wear out. This can be tested by trying the remote right up next to the power cord for the base radio (which doubles as the antenna for receiving remote radio signals). If the buttons work next to the radio then it's a broken antenna and not buttons. Unfortunately that does not guarantee button failure since the base radio can stop hearing remote signals or it could be programmed wrong, etc..
