This is only the second example of this cancel I've come across in a dozen years. Would be a wondeeful addition for anyone's NYFM specialty collection or show exhibit.

For a more accurate assessment of current value based on the total range of grades, see the PSE (Professional Stamp Experts) pricing guide, which is updated quarterly. Their grading also considers other factors than just centering, such as color, impression, eye appeal, the back, perfs, etc., but it will give you a better idea of the range of retail values in the US Classics arena:

For over 7 years, I spent the better part of my time trying to clean the fraud off the stamps category on ebay, which resulted in ebay finally taking some steps to eliminate the crooks by establishing the Stamps Community Watch committee. You can help keep eBay from re-infection by virulent forms of pond scum. If you see a relatively newer ID offering multiple listings of gem appearing US classics all at one time, accompanied by a cockamamie BS story, i.e., "found in an attic", no Scott numbers or descriptions, and a weaselly disclaimer disavowing any responsibility whatsoever for the items being sold, especially if it is located in upstate NY or NY City, please let me know ASAP. I will check for infestation and do what I can to try to stop the infection before it spreads. CAVEAT EMPTOR.
