    When moisture is present in an A/C system, it can cause a tremendous amount of damage. Mixing with the refrigerant, it is transformed into acid and becomes a sludge when mixing with the refrigerant oil. While the acid rots the system from inside, the sludge will cause blockage and won't lubricate the compressor properly causing noisy operation and failure. That is why it is so important to ensure that there is no moisture inside the A/C system. As moisture is always present in the air and will enter the A/C system with it, an accumulator is installed in the system to absorb assembly line moisture.
