SHISHIGATANI is a very old Japanese pumpkin variety dating back to the early 1800's. The fruit is bottle shaped with warty, ribbed rind that starts out very dark green and matures into a dusky buff colour. The flesh is a yellow in colour, firm and sweet with a slight nutty taste (like many Japanese varieties). The fruit can weigh up to 3kg, but ours ranged from 1.5kg to 2.2kg, which is the norm, in 96 days. Inside is lots of great flesh, with a very small seed cavity at one end and only a few seeds. The medium length vines are thin and good producers, but they do seem to prefer cooler weather than our sub-tropical summers.  SOLD OUT    
       THIS VARIETY IS RARE IN AUSTRALIA AND WILL LIKELY NEVER BE COMMERCIALLY GROWN BECAUSE IT ONLY PRODUCES A VERY SMALL AMOUNT OF SEED.
