Can I use it outside?
They are not IP rated. Site under cover and run the air pipe outside instead. If you need to site it outdoors provide a large well-ventilated enclosure with proper electrical protection. Wherever it sits, stand it level and out of direct sunlight, somewhere reasonably clean and dry — the pump draws its air through a sponge filter, and a dusty spot clogs it faster.
Is it noisy?
Yes, these powerful pumps are noisy compared to diaphragm type pumps. Note they are much quieter when connected and working (under load) than testing straight out the box.
Can water flow back up the pipe to the pump?
Yes, this is a real risk if the pump (always on land) is ever lower relative to the water level. Always use a non-return valve to prevent water reaching the pump — available from our shop.
What happens if I run it with outlets closed, or with no load?
Avoid running it with no-load and never shut off all the outlets. These things will reduce the life of the pump.
Does it need oiling?
No, and you should never add any. These pumps are oil-less by design, which is what keeps the delivered air clean enough for a tank or a nutrient reservoir. Unlike a workshop compressor there is no oil level to check or top up, and adding oil will ruin the pump.
Is it serviceable? Can I fix it myself if something goes wrong?
You should clean the sponge inlet filter every two months, with the pump unplugged, but there are no other user serviceable parts.
Does it have a guarantee?
It has a manufacturer's guarantee, 1 year against manufacturing defect.
Do I have to use a manifold and 4mm pipe?
No, you can make connections to the threaded outlet, brass nozzle or over the top of the pump outlet — see the table below.
