| JOHN FAWCETT An uncommonly talented artist working in watercolor and oil, John Fawcett has spent his life studying and gaining inspiration from his subjects. His first hand knowledge of horses and dogs is evident in his detailed images, which often focus on the relationships between animals and people. “I want to make the viewer smell the horse, hear the hoof beats, and have all their senses be taken in by the painting.” A native of Iowa, John Fawcett was always interested in art and spent time as a boy drawing and painting, but never thought that art could be a career. Instead, he pursued a career in veterinary medicine and was a practicing veterinarian for 20 years. “That was the longest anatomy lesson I could have had.” The urge to paint was always there, however, and in 1996 he sold a successful veterinary practice in order to fully devote himself to painting and has never looked back. In an article in Art of the West, Nancy Ellis wrote, “The continuing success of John Fawcett’s art career is nothing short of phenomenal. But it’s soon apparent that this award winning watercolorist has achieved his current enviable status in the art world through old fashioned hard work and discipline.” John Fawcett has been invited to show his work at the Autry Masters of the American West Show, Cheyenne Frontier Days Art Show, The Buffalo Bill Art Show, The Coors Western Art Show, The Mountain Oyster Club Art Show, The C.M. Russell Miniature Show, Settlers West Show and was selected for Arts For the Parks Exhibit in 1996, 1997 and 1999. He won the Artist’s Choice Award at the Buffalo Bill Show in 1996, the US Art Award of Merit at the 1997 Arts for the Parks exhibit, and was inducted as an Honorary Lifetime Artists Member to The Mountain Oyster Club in Tucson, Arizona in 1997. John Fawcett has been featured in Art of the West, Southwest Art, Western Horsemen, The Equine Image, Informart, and U.S. Art Magazines. In addition to a steady stream of commissions, he has also done commissioned work for MacMillan McGraw-Hill, Coors, The National Cutting Horse Association, and Equus Magazine. John Fawcett and his wife Elizabeth, along with their many animals, divide their time between a ranch in northern Colorado and Pennsylvania. |
