This lot features the 1953 Bowman Color Harry Chiti #7 – GAI 9! - Mint! Cubs! ---
The husky catcher broke in with the Cubs at age 17 and made infrequent appearances in 1950-52. After two years in the military he was handed the starting job in 1955, but hit only .231. The relaxed and flexible Chiti became an excellent knuckleball catcher, but after improving his hitting with Kansas City in 1958-59, he batted just .201 in 1960 and was out of the majors by age 30.
