was a follower in the long tradition of clergymen artists and was successful enough to exhibit  11 works at the prestigious Walker Gallery and 4 at the Abbey Gallery in London.Earlier in his artistic career he was a regular exhibitor at the Andover Sketch Club. As vicar of Warbleton and later in Eastbourne, he tended to cover areas within 50 miles of his living but travelled to northern France and Switzerland on holiday.His metier was watercolour landscape and his working span  covered the years from c.1910 to 1940.His work reflects the changes of style during this period from the tighter and more detailed Edwardian period to the freer lighter technique of the 20s and 30s.

We were able to purchase a large folio of his work from between 1910 and 1937 at a major London auction house. All the works are signed,initialled or monogrammed and are mostly dated. Most of the locations are listed on the reverse in the artist'a hand and all are in good condition with fresh colours. A number were original exhibits from the Andover Sketch Club.

This watercolour is one of the Andover Sketch Cub works and depicts an unfinished scene of Cabau Coch Reservoir, Rhayader, Wales.    It is numbered No.23 and dates from 1911.         Member comments are in pencil on reverse.       Condition is fine with some aging round the edges.                                  Size is 10" x 14" .
