Acorn BBC B, B+, Master 128 & Electron Midwich 40T Disc Drive

Please read carefully:

The unit is in an almost mint physical condition considering its age however:

This disc unit can only be described as extremely temperamental when reading & accessing discs.

The drive doesn’t always read discs when the *Cat command is issued.

When it does it sometimes can’t read the last track.

It could be something as simple as an alignment issue?

This Midwich branded disc is an ALPS DFF2124AE1 drive mechanism.

If you are intending connecting this up to an Electron then an appropriate interface & DFS will be needed.

Master 128 owners have the correct interface and DFS fitted, and BBC owners have the correct interface but will need a DFS.

It could be an easy fix for someone with a greater knowledge of drive mechanisms than I do.

I have also included an original copy of the quite hard to find: 'Midwich DFS Manual'.

HENCE THIS AUCTION IS FOR SPARES OR REPAIRS ONLY - NO RETURNS.

Please study photos carefully as they form part of the description and where appropriate, items have been security marked and serial numbers recorded.

The item you see will be the one you receive however: please be aware that there might be some slight colour variations due to my camera, ambient lighting and Ebay filters.

There could be very minor scuffs and blemishes that have not been listed or captured in the photos or description however if there are any they will not affect the basic operation whatsoever.

Ideal for collectors, restorers, or anyone building/starting a vintage Acorn setup.

I should point out that the drive unit is both fragile and heavy, therefore it’s appropriate that I choose the Ebay postage option available to me that is an appropriate amount to cover both the packaging and insurance value.

I specialise in Acorn computers and hardware and have sold many items previously to the UK and worldwide via Ebay’s GSP with no negative feedback.

You can bid with confidence, please see my Ebay ratings for reassurance.

Please see my other Ebay auction listings.

Any questions just ask - I will be happy to help.

Good Luck, you won’t be disappointed and thanks for bidding.

Delivery / Packaging Advice:

• Items will be bubble wrapped and packaged in a plain box.
• Items will be packed VERY carefully for safe transit.
• I occasionally re-use packing materials to reduce both our costs and my Carbon Footprint.
• Shipping is via the eBay simple delivery system, so the price charged for postage is set by eBay, and out of my control.
• The system will usually automatically combine postage if you win more than one auction item, and pay for them together.
• Please don't ask for shipping discounts
• PRICE ADJUSTED to reflect Ebay’s new postage rules and reduced to offset the new buyer fees!!
• I ONLY send items via Ebay’s Simple Delivery System using the Royal Mail or Parcel Force.
• Items come from a pet and smoke free home and have not been stored in a loft/garage/shed or under the bed.
• I will ONLY ship overseas via the Ebay Global Shipping Programme.
• Note: Shipments to third-party shipping services / companies will result in the order being cancelled.

CCS’ T&Cs:

• By placing a bid you fully understand and accept my terms & conditions.
• Items have been security marked and serial numbers recorded where appropriate.
• I cannot be held responsible for items fraudulently signed for at your delivery address.
• I cannot be held responsible for delivery errors made by the Royal Mail/Parcel Force or for any lost, stolen or damaged items caused by them.
• I always describe items as accurately as possible - if you are unsure about anything please ask questions BEFORE bidding.
• PLEASE LEAVE FEEDBACK if you are happy with your purchase - we all benefit from feedback.
• As policy I do not leave feedback until the buyer does - Ebay will eventually autogenerate one but it is non-personal and just like the AI descriptions, obvious to other viewers.
• I am a small one-man business operating in the Highlands of Scotland - donating profits to charity wherever possible, please have patience when messaging as I am not online 24/7.  Thank you.
