A comprehensive two-volume study of the uniforms, weapons and organisation of the Uhlan regiments of the Duchy of Warsaw during the Napoleonic Wars, covering the years 1809–1814.
Weapon and Colour of the Uhlans of the Duchy of Warsaw
Parts 2 & 3 (1809–1814)
This two-volume set presents a detailed examination of the uniforms, weapons, equipment and organisation of the Uhlan regiments of the Duchy of Warsaw during the final years of the Napoleonic Wars.
Covering the period from the Austrian campaign of 1809 through Napoleon's invasion of Russia and the campaigns of 1813–1814, the books trace the development, expansion and later reorganisation of Polish cavalry formations. The authors analyse the creation of new Uhlan regiments, changes in uniforms and armament, and the role of Polish cavalry both within the Duchy of Warsaw and alongside Napoleon's Grande Armée.
The second volume focuses on the years 1809–1812, a period of rapid growth and reform within the cavalry arm. The third volume continues the story through the Russian campaign, the rebuilding of Polish forces after 1812, the Lithuanian Uhlan regiments, Krakus cavalry formations and the final campaigns fought in Germany and France.
Drawing upon military regulations, archival sources, period artwork, surviving artefacts and contemporary accounts, the series offers a carefully researched reconstruction of Polish cavalry appearance and equipment. Richly illustrated with specially commissioned colour plates, it is an important reference work for historians, collectors, reenactors and enthusiasts of Napoleonic military history.
