The obverse features an allegory depicting a handshake between
"Uruguay" and "Brazil." Above the hands, there is a radiant sun and fruited laurel branches.
Beneath the hand representing Brazil, a star is visible; this star signifies the country's federal unity. The other twenty stars found along the rim of the medal symbolize the twenty states that existed at the time. Currently, there are twenty-seven states.
