With Nothing Underneath was founded in London in 2017 by Pip Durell, a former Vogue stylist and Tatler editor who had spent years adapting men’s shirts to get the relaxed fit she wanted. Her idea was simple: take the ease and timelessness of classic menswear shirting and rework it properly for women.
That idea still defines WNU. Inspired by British heritage, men’s tailoring and enduring style, its shirts favour relaxed proportions, beautiful fabrics and understated detailing over passing trends. The aesthetic is deliberately effortless, drawing inspiration from women such as Jane Birkin, Carolyn Bessette and Charlotte Rampling.
Sustainability is also central to the brand, with carefully considered materials and production and B Corp certification. The result is a distinctly modern British label built around a deceptively simple proposition: really good shirts, designed to be worn repeatedly and to look better for being worn with ease.
The Weekend Shirt is WNU at its most relaxed – an oversized, easy-going shirt designed around the idea of slow days and effortless dressing.
This version is made from 100% organic cotton seersucker, whose distinctive puckered surface holds much of the fabric away from the skin, creating a lightweight, breathable feel particularly well suited to warmer weather. WNU notes that its seersucker becomes even more characterfully crinkled with washing.
Finished in Pale Pink & Mocha Multi Stripe, the combination of soft pink and warm neutral stripes gives the shirt a subtle vintage feel while remaining extremely easy to coordinate with white, cream, denim and earthy summer tones.
The Weekend has a deliberately boxy, oversized fit, with a relaxed dropped shoulder and curved hem. It can be worn loose over trousers or shorts, tucked at the front, or left open over a vest or T-shirt as a lightweight summer layer
A particularly good expression of the WNU aesthetic – borrowed-from-the-boys shirting made softer, easier and more feminine, with the Pale Pink and Mocha stripe giving the relaxed Weekend shape a lovely understated summer character.
