Up for sale is a premium, collector-grade example of the iconic Olympus Pen-EE (EL Variant) 35mm half-frame camera. Designed by legendary camera engineer Yoshihisa Maitani, this ultra-compact point-and-shoot camera splits standard 35mm film frames vertically, allowing you to get 72 shots out of a single standard 36-exposure roll. This is the scarcer 1966 "EL" version, featuring an upgraded multi-slot internal take-up spool designed for exceptionally fast, slip-free film loading. Because the automatic exposure meter is entirely powered by the solar selenium cell framing the lens, this camera requires absolutely no batteries to operate.
Condition Note
- Excellent Cosmetic Condition: This unit is super clean and shows signs of being hardly used. The classic silver metal housing is bright, the grey textured basket-weave cladding is fully intact, and the original "EL" front badge and silver "JCII Passed" quality inspection stickers are beautifully preserved.
- 100% Fully Functional & Tested: Mechanically and electronically verified. The film advance thumbwheel turns smoothly, and the shutter button clicks crisply.
- Working Selenium Meter: The light meter is fully responsive. When tested in dark conditions, the iconic internal red warning flag correctly pops up inside the viewfinder and safely locks the shutter button to prevent a wasted, underexposed exposure. When brought into bright sunlight, the shutter releases perfectly.
- Optics: The camera viewport and front lens glass elements are clear with only minor dust at edges.
- Lens Cap: original to the camera, but loose so it doesn't stay on.
