Hello and welcome to The House of Chrome.

You are looking at a nice 1959 Shure 55S model microphone that comes with the custom short cable in which to operate.

I should note right away that this mic works on all impedance settings. The mic has a 100% signal and sounds as good as it looks. This mic has just the right amount of bass with a slightly dirty tone that will be ideal for singing and will make a great piece if you're looking for a jazzy. blues rockabilly tone. It can be used for broadcasting purposes as well.

Pic # 2 shows this very model in an old Shure catalog I have and it's basic characteristics.

Pic # 3 shows a younger Elvis using one of these while performing live in concert.

This mic comes with it's original cardioid dynamic element and like all 55S series mics the element was loose inside from wore out old shock mounts so I replaced them. The element is secured as it should be and won't give you any unwanted feedback while live. This is very important to do but don't do it yourself as the mics element is sensitive to static shock and you can easily ruin the mic.

This 55S was the smaller replacement 2nd gen 55. The original 55 was 3 times larger and by 1950 Shure Brothers was looking for a redesign. The 55S was the smaller slender version and it's just as unique and beautiful as the 1st gen 55. Possibly the most sought after mic in the world.

As you can see the satin chrome body shows just very lite wear. Zero deep scratches or dings in the satin chrome finish. Just a few very lite scuff marks. The ribs are straight with the exception of the top front left corner where it took a ding. The inner Royal Blue silk screens are flawless with zero odors or rip. The Shure label is perfect and I would rate this microphone a solid 8 + out of 1 - 10.

Often these old 55 mics are stained with tobacco as smoking was quite popular back in the day. You won't find any of that on this mic. The joint mechanism works perfectly with plenty of tension and a wide degree of tilt. The threading for both the stand and cable are perfect.

Worthy of any vintage mic collection and excellent for every day use.

You'll notice that there is an original but shortened 8 inch cable included. It's soft, pliable and free of damage. I custom modified the cable so that you can use this with any XLR cable of choice as an extension. It has the standard male Switchcraft XLR end connector. You have everything you need. Simply attach your longer XLR cable of choice and play.

MICROPHONE STAND SHOWN IS NOT PART OF THIS SALE...USED FOR DISPLAY PURPOSES ONLY.

If you need an older desk stand I have several for sale that will work great with this mic.
