Rigobert Bonne (1727 - 1794) was a French Cartographer working mainly in Paris during the later half of the 18th century. He is widely regarded as one of the most important cartographers and map makers of his time. In 1773 he succeeded Nicolas Bellin as Royal cartographer in the Office of Hydrography at the Depot de la Marine. Much of his work involved mapping coastlines and colonial areas of interest to France. His work marks a significant step in the evolution of cartography, moving away from the more decorative work of the 17th century towards a practical and scientific approach which typifies modern maps. This map is from a copy of 'Atlas de toutes les parties connues du Globe Terrestre' published in Geneva in 1780.
