This QED SDR is a classic British hi-fi component from the late 1980s/1990s. It was designed specifically for early line-level sources—most notably CD players—which output a strong enough signal (~2V) that traditional active amplification isn't strictly necessary before hitting a power amplifier.

Setup & Usage Tips

  1. Connections:

    • Connect line sources (CD player, DAC, streamer, tuner) directly into the RCA input jacks.

    • Connect the Pre-Out RCA outputs directly to a power amplifier (or active powered speakers).

  2. Cable Length Matters:

    • Because passive preamps rely on source drive and do not buffer output impedance, keep interconnect cables between the QED SDR and your power amplifier as short as possible (ideally 1 meter or less) and use low-capacitance cables.
