🐉 THE VIKING SHIP
Early Viking ships carried no sail and were rowed along the coast. Once crews pushed into open water they raised a single mast with a plain square sail, and by the eighth and ninth centuries the ship worked under both oar and sail. Bow and stern rose alike, each ending in a carved head, often a dragon.
🛡️ A ROW OF SHIELDS ALONG THE RAIL
Round shields of wood or hide stood in a line along the gunwale, turning back spray and arrows alike. Crews painted them in bright patterns, and the model carries the same row, ready for colour.
🧩 LASER CUT PARTS, THREAD AND BRASS
Kit YM041 arrives as two laser cut wood sheets with two boards. Parts are released with a craft knife, not by hand, then built into the hull, the shield rail and the oars. Three dowels form the mast and spar, brass wire and two colours of thread run the rigging.
🎯 THE TOP OF THE SCALE
The kit is unpainted and no paint is included; sandpaper is supplied for the edges. Youngmodeler rates this release 6 out of 6, the highest step on its scale. Made in Korea.
