Brand new Formatt Hitech Custom Diffusion cinema filter kit featuring a complete assortment of 15 specialized 4x5.65" diffusion filters housed in a custom fitted HPRC protective hard case.

The Formatt Hitech Custom Diffusion system was developed to give cinematographers precise control over the three primary characteristics of diffusion: Resolution, Halation, and Contrast. Rather than relying on a single diffusion effect, the system separates these characteristics into different filter families and strengths, allowing cinematographers to test, combine, and fine-tune the exact look desired for a production.

Each filter measures 4x5.65" and is 2mm thick. The slim 2mm design allows two filters to be stacked together to create the standard 4mm cinema tray thickness. Individual 2mm filters may also be used with compatible 2mm trays or matte boxes utilizing a clamping/pressure mechanism.

The different diffusion families allow a cinematographer to selectively modify fine detail, highlight bloom, contrast, and overall image character.

Resolution / Soft filters use microlens diffusion to reduce high-frequency detail such as fine skin texture and fine fabric patterns while retaining a defined overall image. They can also help reduce the appearance of moiré when photographing detailed fabrics.

Halation filters create controlled bloom around bright highlights and practical light sources, producing a softer and more cinematic glow. Different particle types and colors allow the filters to vary the relationship between halation and contrast.

Contrast filters use fine diffusion material to scatter light throughout the image, lifting shadow detail and moderating highlights for a softer, lower-contrast appearance. They are especially useful with modern high-dynamic-range digital cinema cameras.

The included custom hard case features fitted foam storage for the filters and additional accessory space, providing secure protection during transport, production, or rental use.
