Polish Army military balloons – observation, artillery fire adjustment and aerial defence during the September 1939 Campaign.

Polish Army Military Balloons – Observation & Barrage Balloons

Military balloons formed a specialized branch of the Polish Army, with observation balloons used for battlefield reconnaissance and artillery fire adjustment, while barrage balloons provided an additional element of aerial defence. During the September Campaign of 1939, observation balloon companies were assigned to Polish Army formations, while barrage balloon units were deployed in the defence of Warsaw.

This richly illustrated volume presents Polish military balloon units, their equipment, organization and operational role, offering an interesting overview of a distinctive and now rarely discussed element of the Polish armed forces of the interwar period and the 1939 campaign.
