Zante zoomorphic ferish statue. The upper echelons of their secret societies, especially the more profound Mani, are associated with sculptures of owls with a zoomorphic face, which may symbolize the owl’s vision and a double personality. Many shielded society members from the usual tragedies of hunting and evil spirits. South Sudan, the Central African Republic, and the Northern Democratic Republic of the Congo are home to the Zande people. Because they have been used, these Zande have a dark patina.
