This handcrafted piece is sculpted from natural stone with greenish hues and ochre veins, paying homage to the rich stonework tradition of ancient Peru. The figure represents an anthropomorphic head in profile, suggesting a feline character or that of an ancestral deity—a characteristic feature of the mythical tenoned heads of the Chavín culture (Early Horizon, predating the Inca era). Sculpted volutes and spirals adorn the back and lower part of the head, evoking the sacred iconography of serpents or Andean cosmological elements. Its striking and expressive features are noteworthy, with a penetrating gaze, pronounced eyebrows, and a stylized mouth with defined folds. Crafted from hand-carved stone with a smooth finish that highlights the natural veins and nuances of the mineral, it is ideal as a decorative collector's item or a representation of pre-Columbian Andean art. Although ancient Peruvian art is often associated with the Incas, the geometric style with scrolls and mythical features of this piece is primarily inspired by the ceremonial art of the Chavín culture (c. 1200 BC – 200 BC). This piece was handmade by Peruvian artisans from Chavín de Huántar.
