Sound & characterThe brighter Conn sound – yellow brass special model

The Conn 88HYCL is the rarer yellow brass version of the well-known 88HCL symphony - Christian Lindberg Edition. Compared to the common red brass bell of the standard 88HCL, yellow brass delivers a slightly brighter, more direct sound with a consistently large volume - an advantage wherever projection and assertiveness are required in the tutti.

The characteristic CL valve, which Conn developed together with Christian Lindberg, impresses with its exceptional smoothness and quick response. The open-wrap design ensures a free, low-resistance blowing feeling that orchestral trombonists particularly appreciate during long rehearsals and concerts. The large bore of 0.547″ (13.89 mm) gives the tone fullness and carrying capacity even in the lowest registers.

This example is in very good working condition: technically perfect, slide runs freely, no loss of chrome. The partially visible paint scratches and discolorations are purely cosmetic in nature and do not affect the feel or sound in any way.

RecommendationPractical tip from a professional musician
The 88HYCL is an excellent choice for orchestral trombonists who appreciate the classic Conn sound but are looking for a little more brightness and projection in the sound. The heavyweight valve cover dampens resonance in the valve body and can shift the sound towards more warmth - I recommend trying both covers in rehearsal before committing. In combination with a large-shafted mouthpiece like the Bach 5G, this trombone unfolds its full potential.
