Atsunomi Japanese Timber Framing Mortise Chisel 9/16" Cut 11.5" Long Signed LG

For sale is a Autsunomi (thick striking chisel), a Japanese Timber Framing Mortise Chisel. It is about 11.5" long with a 9/16" or mics out at 14.89 mm cut or (width).  The chisel is in very good condition and signed by the blacksmith. It has paper sticker that may be the the distributor's label (Marutomo). The chisel is sharp (3000 grit) and ready for work. The crown is set and is in good condition. The handle end grain has been sealed.

The ”Atsunomi, ” written 厚鑿, translates to “thick chisel.” This is the largest variety of tatakinomi readily available nowadays and is almost identical in design to its more petite oiirenomi sisters, but being larger, longer, heavier and stronger it is able to transmit and endure the impact forces of heavy hammer blows from sunup to sundown to cut a lot of wood.
